"Simple Truths" about Cluster B(ike) Activist Andy Boenau's Bullshit Attack on Shaun Wallace
Cluster B(ike) Activist Andy Boenau is dancing on a grave not yet dug.
Over the weekend a bicyclist was found on the ground in Encinitas, California, an affluent coastal city north of San Diego. Paramedics tried to revive the bicyclist but sadly were unable to and the bicyclist was later pronounced dead at the scene. Details were and still are fuzzy- the bicyclist was found at night on a weekend and there was no indication of a motor vehicle involved but a small, yet vocal group of local and regional Principled-driven bicyclists suspected something else: the “protected bicycle lane1.”
One of the locals to suspect the “protected bicycle lane” had something to do with the fatality was the case was Encinitas resident Shaun Wallace. Not too long after the fatality, and before the latest winter rain storm had the chance to wash away potential clues, Wallace, an avid bicyclist with Olympic pedigree and cycling safety advocate biked out to the scene to investigate.
What he found were several paint markings typical of traffic collision investigations and a pool of dried blood.
Since then, the chattering about this fatality has focused on the “protected bicycle lane.” Principled-driven bicyclists have (for decades) been pointing out the hazards of “protected bike lanes,” and this “design” being having no exception being that the ideas pushed by their proponents violates the basics of human vision, attention, and cognition.
Earlier this week, the bicyclist was identified by law enforcement as 48 year old Ryan Currie, an Encinitas resident, veteran, widower, and father of five children. Other specifics remain unknown at the moment such as whether Mr. Currie had any drugs in his system or whether he was cycling in the number two general-use travel lane prior to the incident or whether he was using the “protected bicycle lane.” Investigators have told local media sources he was not wearing a helmet (which depending on the nuances of the crash may or may not actually matter) or whether his bicycle was equipped with a white front-facing light2.
While these details remain to be revealed, if they ever will be, the question about whether the “protected bicycle lane” had anything to do with the crash and subsequent fatality is far from pure speculation .
Principle-driven cycling advocates have been sounding the alarm for years about the hazards of these “protected bike lanes.” This particular bicycle facility, which runs roughly 1.3 miles on Coast Highway 101 between the infamous “Cardiff Kook” statue and the boundary with the neighboring city of Solana Beach has seen over thirty bicycle related crashes since it opened in early 2020 - something accurately predicted by principle-driven cycling advocates.
The vast majority of these crashes have not involved a motor vehicle, which punches a hole in the usual (bullshit) narrative pushed by Platitude-driven advocates and their extremists, the Cluster B(ike) Activists that it’s the so-called “traffic violence” caused by motor vehicle drivers to blame for bicycle crashes and that so-called “protected” bicycle lanes alleviate such problems. To add to the complexity, it’s not the bicyclists either to blame, but more the “treatment” pushed by “saviors” masquerading as “protection” which attempts to guilt any critics something framed “for all ages and abilities.” Supporters of these bikeways fradulantly and with an authoritarian zeal project the idea they have the objective truth and morality on their side.
The crash record of this “protected bicycle lane” was predicted, accurately, by Principled-driven cycling advocates with Wallace being among one of them. Wallace happened to be interviewed in local news segments about the fatality. This is where Cluster B(ike) Activist and Richmond Virginia-based
unfortunately steps in.Over on Twitter after discovering that a local media outlet interviewed Wallace about the fatality he takes not one but four3 character disorder driven shots at Wallace in one day.
makes several claims here about Shaun Wallace all of which are pure bullshit, and as the actual video proves, misrepresented Wallace’s arguments.Watch for yourself:
The push for so-called “protected bike lanes” centers on both Slocum’s and Haltigan’s theses. It’s further difficult for any normal person to believe the misrepresentations of Wallace’s arguments as portrayed in the interview occured by accident on the part of
as something accidental or unintended. Viewing Bounau’s Twitter profile reveals he’s to say the least, a prolific bullshitter who disgustingly uses tragedies to promote his defective worldview. It’s indeed true Wallace is an accomplished Olympic Athlete in the field of cycling, it wasn’t that alone which, pun intended, woke Wallace to the hazards “protected bike lanes,” it was instead his embrace of the revered Cycling Savvy cycling safety education program. Cycling Savvy teaches bicyclists how to navigate virtually any situation on a bicycle whether it be
Wallace’s discovery of the issues with “protected bike lanes” and how to keep himself objectively safe when cycling off the curated closed circuit track had nothing to do with his professional cycling career.
In other words, Wallace, had a bit of intellectual humility - something
could perhaps see after he’s treated for his character disorder. And something which may or may not be of knownlege to
is that Wallace WON by scoring another interview with another local news outlet. But will
have some short of, ahem, coming-to-Forester moment?Such a miracle is highly doubtful.
The correct legal definition in California for such a facility is a Class IV Bikeway. In that state there is no such thing as a “protected bicycle lane,” but that term is commonly used by laypeople and many cycling advocates and the terminology is correct outside of California.
Platitude-driven bicyclists and/or Cluster B(ike) activists chime in with nonsensical “victim blaming” acccustions it’s important to note that taking all potential factors into consideration is vital.
